An MCP host contains a client that connects to one or more servers. Servers can expose tools, resources and prompts through a common protocol. The protocol does not decide which server is trustworthy or which action should be approved; the application still owns policy.

Clients connect; servers expose.
Capabilities have different semantics.
Permissions remain application policy.
